11. 17 FOOT VINTAGE LAKEFIELD CANOE

Vintage Lakefield Canadian Canoe, 17ft long by 2ft 11in
This is a cedar-strip canoe made by Lakefield in Ontario, Canada, possibly about 100 years ago. It is of narrow cedar-strip construction with multiple ribs and held together with copper nails.
It is in very good condition, although it has been out of the water and stored indoors for a number of years.
There are full length foot boards and there is a brass ring fitting in the bow-deck, the original function of which was to fit a small mast for sailing. The previous owner also made fitments to convert the canoe into a rowing craft so there are oars, rowlocks and a thwart also available; we have removed these but they could be refitted. This craft apparently used to be quite a feature in the Traditional Boat Rally in Henley many years ago.
The canoe is currently in Henley-on-Thames.
